Where Business Owners, Entrepreneurs and Professionals Connect for Information and Inspiration
Jeff Corbett, Senior VP,Progress Energy, 3/25/ 2009
Jeff Corbett, Senior Vice President, Progress Energy Carolinas spoke about Securing Our Energy Future. Jeff brought a balanced perspective to the future of energy including an overview of current legislation working its way through the US Congress. Nuclear power generation must be part of the future and alternate forms of energy generation including solar and wind will play a limited role primarily due to technological and efficiency challenges. There are significant coal reserves in the US, however the cost to limit emissions is a major factor.

Interesting thoughts
Bob,
While I don't have my notes in front of me, I found Jeff's outlook on the future of "energy" very interesting. Others seemed to, as well, since we had a very lively discussion after you and he left.
Different tables went in different directions, ours seemed to be very interested in the question of whether or not some of the progress that Jeff described, and some of the developments that others around the table saw as necessary, would even be possible, and whether or not politicians could or should be involved. One of us was adamant that the only way out of the laissez-faire attitude of the population at large was to take politiciians out of the equation, remove all subsidies that artificially reduced prices and made people wake up and either pay their fair share, or reduce their use. Another at our table was equally adamant that we should depend on politicians to "lead us into the promised land."
All in all, a very interesting morning.
