Jim Green's Presentation, September 10, 2009
Jim Green, Senior Vice President, United Way of the Greater Triangle discussed Giving, Advocating and Volunteering which is the theme of the United Way of the Greater Triangle (UWGT). His presentation included his personal story about how United Way was a major source of support for his family during his difficult childhood years.
Jim commented there are 95 UWGT partner agencies that provide health, income, safety and education services through 180 programs. An allocations committee examines agency effectiveness including a thorough review of the agencies' budget and operations to assure donor funds are used for the intended purpose and
Each year there are 3,000 active volunteers and 30,000 donors. The current challenge is how to meet the 33% increase in need with an 11% drop in donations. Jim mentioned that the joy of giving is a powerful motivator.
